Cervical cancers
Cervical cancers are mainly caused by viruses from the human papillomavirus (HPV) family. In general, the body manages to eliminate them, but in some cases these infections can persist and cause lesions on the cervix that can eventually lead to cancer.
- There are two complementary ways of limiting this risk:
screening smear tests every three years for women aged between 25 and 65, and - HPV vaccination for girls aged 11 and over.
An information stand will be set up for the 10th European Cervical Cancer Screening Week. A quiz will be held on Thursday 28 January from 11.30am in the reception hall of the AXIUM clinic.
